Soft Quark and Raisin Rolls for Toddlers

Snacks12+m 35 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg, Honey

These soft quark and raisin rolls make a wonderful snack for your child. They are easy to chew and hold, which supports fine motor skills during independent eating. Plus, they provide valuable energy for active little explorers.

Ingredients

  • 150 g low-fat quark (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • 4 tbsp neutral vegetable oil (like canola oil)
  • 1 egg (medium)
  • 250 g all-purpose or mild whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 50 g unsulfured raisins
  • Optional: 1 tsp honey (only for children over 12 months)

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the quark, oil, egg, and honey (if using) in a bowl until you have a smooth mixture.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Knead everything quickly into a soft, pliable dough.
  4. Gently fold the raisins evenly into the dough.
  5. Using damp hands, form about eight small, round rolls and place them on the baking sheet.
  6. Bake the rolls in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes until they are lightly golden brown.
  7. Let the rolls cool completely before serving, and always check the temperature before your child takes a bite.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruity alternative: Swap the raisins for finely diced dried apricots or cranberries.
  • Storage: The rolls will stay fresh for about two to three days in an airtight container in the fridge. They also freeze beautifully and can be thawed individually as needed.
  • Adjusting texture: For younger eaters, you can soak the raisins in warm water beforehand or leave them out entirely for an even softer dough.
  • Family tip: Adults and older siblings often enjoy these rolls spread with a little butter, sugar-free fruit spread, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Allergy & Safety Notes

This recipe contains wheat (gluten), egg, and dairy (quark). Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions.

Honey warning: Children under 12 months must not eat honey, as it can contain dangerous bacteria. If you choose to add nuts, only use finely ground ones due to the choking hazard.

If you have any concerns about introducing new foods or your child's diet, always consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

The quark provides valuable protein and calcium, supporting bone and muscle development during this active growth phase. Raisins offer quick energy and contain fiber for healthy digestion. Canola oil also adds important unsaturated fatty acids, which are beneficial for brain development.
