Soft Strawberry Semolina Dumplings for Your Baby

Snacks5+m 25 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten

These fruity dumplings made from spelt semolina and mild strawberry puree are a wonderful discovery for your child. They are easy for tiny hands to grasp and melt softly in the mouth. For babies around five months, you can also offer the mixture warm as a smooth puree from a spoon. The combination of grains and fruit provides valuable energy for the day and awakens curiosity for new taste experiences.

Ingredients

  • 100 g mild, ripe strawberries (washed and hulled)
  • 100 ml water
  • 30 g spelt semolina (fine)
  • 1 tsp rapeseed oil (or suitable baby oil)
  • Optional: 2 tbsp breast milk or prepared infant formula (stir in after cooking)

Preparation

  1. Puree the washed strawberries very finely in a tall container using an immersion blender until no chunks remain.
  2. Bring the water and the strawberry puree to a boil in a small saucepan.
  3. Sprinkle in the spelt semolina while stirring constantly with a whisk.
  4. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer gently for about 2 to 3 minutes until a thick, creamy texture forms.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the oil, along with the optional breast milk or formula.
  6. For dumplings: Let the mixture cool on a plate and shape small dumplings using two teaspoons. For puree: Pour directly into a small bowl. Always check the temperature before feeding.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the fruit: Instead of strawberries, mild pears or peaches are also excellent for this recipe.
  • Storage: The finished dumplings keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. They also freeze very well. An ice cube tray works best for freezing small portions.
  • Adjust the texture: For the very first attempts with a spoon, you can add a little more water to create a thinner puree.
  • For the whole family: Parents and older siblings can enjoy the dumplings drizzled with a little maple syrup and sprinkled with finely ground roasted almonds.

Allergy and Safety Information

Spelt semolina contains gluten. Introduce gluten-containing grains like wheat or spelt individually and in small amounts to observe how they are tolerated. Strawberries can also cause a mild diaper rash in some children. Always test new foods following the 3-day rule. Milk remains the primary source of nutrition throughout the first year. If you have any concerns about introducing solid foods or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

This dish provides a valuable combination of carbohydrates and vitamins. The spelt semolina offers long-lasting energy and is pleasantly filling. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which wonderfully supports the absorption of plant-based iron from other meals.
