These sugar-free bars made from tender oats and plum puree are pleasantly soft. They gently support digestion and offer a fruity variety for snack time. For the youngest ones, they can easily be transformed into a smooth puree.
Ingredients
- 100 g rolled oats (ground into flour)
- 150 g ripe plums (pitted, about 4 to 5 pieces)
- 50 ml water or breast milk (for consistency)
- 1 tsp rapeseed oil (suitable for baby food)
Preparation
- Wash the plums, cut them in half and remove the pit. Steam the fruit with a little water in a small saucepan for about 10 minutes until soft.
- Blend the soft plums and the rapeseed oil into a very smooth puree so that no pieces remain.
- Stir the finely ground oats into the plum puree until a smooth, creamy mixture forms.
- Spread the mixture about one centimeter thick on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat) for 15 minutes until set but still very soft.
- After baking, cut into handy bars and let them cool completely. Always do a temperature check before feeding.
Variations and Tips
- For babies from 5 months who are just starting solids, you can puree half a bar with a little breast milk or formula into a very smooth puree without pieces. Start with 2 to 6 spoons at first and slowly increase the amount to 100 to 200 grams.
- You can easily replace the plums with mild pears or apples.
- The bars will keep in the fridge in an airtight container for up to two days.
- They also freeze exceptionally well. Place parchment paper between the bars so they do not stick together, and thaw them individually as needed.
Allergies and Safety
- Oats contain gluten, an EU allergen that you can introduce mindfully. Always introduce new foods one at a time and wait three days to easily observe any potential reactions.
- Please do not use honey, as it is not safe for babies under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism.
- Nuts or seeds pose a choking hazard and may only be given finely ground or as a smooth butter.
- Milk remains the main source of nutrition for your child in the first year. If you have any concerns about starting solid foods, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutrients for Your Child
- Oats provide valuable plant-based iron, which plays an important role in growth at this age.
- The plums add Vitamin C, which perfectly supports the absorption of iron from the oats.
- In addition, the gentle dietary fibers of the plum are known to mildly promote digestion.
