Introduction
Mild spring turnips and sweet peas capture the essence of the season and are gentle on tiny tummies. Paired with tender veal, this fine puree offers a delicate flavor combination. The creamy, smooth texture makes it wonderful for those early spoonfuls.
Ingredients
- 100 g spring turnips (peeled and diced)
- 50 g peas (frozen or fresh)
- 30 g lean veal (cut into small pieces)
- 1 tbsp rapeseed oil (or suitable baby oil)
- 2 to 3 tbsp water (for blending)
Preparation
- Peel the turnips and cut them into small cubes. Dice the veal into very small pieces as well.
- Steam the meat and turnips in a small pot with a little water over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
- Add the peas and let everything simmer for another 5 minutes until the vegetables and meat are completely tender.
- Transfer the mixture to a blending jug along with the rapeseed oil and a splash of the cooking water.
- Blend everything into a very smooth, creamy consistency with no lumps.
- Let the puree cool down to body temperature and always test the heat before feeding your child.
Variations & Tips
- Instead of spring turnips, you can use kohlrabi or zucchini to introduce different flavors.
- The puree can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
- This recipe freezes beautifully. Use ice cube trays to freeze small, easy to thaw portions for the early days of weaning.
- For older children, you can easily adapt the texture by mashing the ingredients rather than blending them completely smooth.
Allergy & Safety Information
- Introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts. This helps you observe how your child reacts.
- Milk remains the primary source of nutrition at this stage, while solid foods gently complement the diet.
- Always ensure that the meat is thoroughly cooked.
- If you have any questions or concerns about starting solids, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
This puree provides valuable iron from the veal, which supports healthy blood development. The peas and turnips add Vitamin C, helping the body absorb the iron more efficiently. Additionally, the vegetables offer gentle fiber for balanced digestion.
