Spring Wild Garlic Pasta Salad with Cherry Tomatoes

Seasonal2+y 20 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy

This bright, spring-inspired pasta salad brings wonderful colors to the plate and is a fantastic meal for children aged three and up. The combination of wild garlic and sweet cherry tomatoes provides valuable vitamins while encouraging a love for fresh vegetables. Parents can easily prepare this dish for an upcoming picnic or a light, relaxed dinner.

Ingredients

  • 150 g short pasta (e.g., fusilli or farfalle, whole wheat is a great choice)
  • 100 g cherry tomatoes (organic preferred)
  • 1 small bunch of fresh wild garlic (approx. 20 g)
  • 2 tbsp mild olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 30 g grated Parmesan or mild Gouda cheese
  • A pinch of salt and mild pepper

Preparation

  1. Boil the pasta in a pot of water according to the package instructions (approx. 10 minutes) until soft.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, wash the cherry tomatoes thoroughly and quarter them into small, bite-sized pieces.
  3. Wash the wild garlic, drain well, and cut it into very fine strips.
  4. To make the dressing, mix the olive oil, lemon juice, finely chopped wild garlic, a pinch of salt, and a little pepper in a large bowl.
  5. Drain the cooked pasta, rinse briefly with cold water, and add it directly to the dressing bowl.
  6. Fold in the quartered tomatoes and the grated cheese, mixing everything gently.
  7. Let the salad cool down slightly before serving and always check the temperature to ensure your child does not burn their mouth.

Variations & Tips

  • Swap the veggies: Instead of tomatoes, gently steamed zucchini cubes or sweet peas are excellent additions to this salad.
  • Storage: The pasta salad keeps well for up to two days in an airtight container in the fridge. It is not suitable for freezing, as the tomatoes will become mushy upon thawing.
  • Adjusting the texture: For younger siblings, you can cook the pasta a bit longer until very soft and puree the wild garlic smoothly into the dressing.
  • Family tip: Parents can easily upgrade their own portions with roasted pine nuts, a pinch of chili flakes, or crumbled feta cheese.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten (pasta) and dairy (cheese), which are common allergens. Always quarter cherry tomatoes carefully, as whole or halved tomatoes pose a choking hazard for young children.

Introduce new ingredients like wild garlic one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions. If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or introducing new foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Thanks to the cherry tomatoes and fresh wild garlic, this salad provides plenty of vitamin C to support a healthy immune system. Choosing whole wheat pasta adds valuable fiber for gentle digestion. The olive oil also helps the body absorb the fat-soluble vitamins from the vegetables effectively.
