Summer Berry Polenta for Babies

Seasonal5+m 20 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten

This summery berry polenta brings the taste of the warm season to the table. The gentle sweetness of raspberries or blueberries pairs beautifully with the mild cornmeal. Many babies enjoy this combination, which provides valuable energy for the day and encourages them to discover new flavors.

Ingredients

  • 50 g polenta (cornmeal, ideally organic)
  • 200 ml water or unsweetened oat drink
  • 100 g fresh berries (such as raspberries or blueberries)
  • 1 tsp canola oil (or specific weaning oil)

Preparation

  1. Wash the berries thoroughly, sort them, and simmer gently in a small pot with a tablespoon of water until soft.
  2. Puree the fruit finely and pass it through a fine sieve to remove any small seeds.
  3. In a second pot, bring the liquid to a boil, stir in the polenta, and let it swell over low heat for about ten minutes.
  4. Stir the cornmeal regularly until a smooth and creamy mixture forms.
  5. Mix the berry puree and the canola oil into the finished polenta.
  6. Allow the portion to cool down well before feeding and always check the temperature.

Variations and Tips

  • For the start of weaning: Serve the polenta as a smooth, warm puree from a spoon.
  • As finger food: Spread the warm polenta mixture about two centimeters thick on a flat plate. Once completely cooled, it becomes firm and can be cut into handy slices.
  • Storage: The puree or slices will keep well covered in the fridge for up to two days.
  • For the family: Parents can pan-fry the slices in a little butter and enjoy them with maple syrup.

Allergy and Safety Notes

Always introduce new ingredients like berries individually and in small amounts to observe any potential reactions. Make sure to sieve out small seeds from raspberries or blackberries for very young babies. Completely avoid honey and salt during the first year of life. If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods, it is best to speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Cornmeal provides easily digestible carbohydrates for sustained energy. The berries contribute valuable vitamin C, which supports iron absorption from plant-based sources. Canola oil also supplies important omega fatty acids for brain development.
