Fresh blackberries provide a beautiful color in summer and offer valuable vitamins. A ripe banana adds natural sweetness, while fine spelt flakes give the puree a pleasant, smooth texture. This gentle recipe is wonderful for those very first spoonfuls, as it can be pureed perfectly smooth. Many babies start with small amounts of two to six spoons and increase this amount entirely in their own time.
Ingredients
- 50 g fresh blackberries (organic if possible)
- 0.5 ripe banana (approx. 50 g)
- 2 tablespoons fine baby spelt flakes
- 100 ml water or age-appropriate infant formula
- 1 teaspoon high-quality weaning oil (rapeseed or sunflower oil)
Preparation
- Wash the blackberries thoroughly under running water and let them drain.
- Bring the berries and water to a boil in a small saucepan and let them simmer gently for about three minutes.
- Press the soft blackberries through a fine sieve to remove all seeds. Return the seedless fruit sauce to the pot.
- Stir in the spelt flakes and bring to a quick boil while stirring, until a smooth, creamy texture forms.
- Remove the pot from the heat, mash the half banana very finely with a fork, and stir it into the porridge along with the weaning oil.
- Let the porridge cool to room temperature and always test the temperature on the back of your hand before feeding your child.
Variations and Tips
- Instead of blackberries, this porridge also tastes delicious with blueberries or raspberries.
- For older children who already enjoy some texture, you can simply mash the berries without straining them.
- The porridge can be safely stored in the refrigerator for up to two days or frozen in small ice cube trays.
- Parents can use any leftover puree as a fruity topping for their own yogurt or oatmeal.
Allergy and Safety Information
- Spelt contains gluten. Introduce gluten-containing grains individually and in small amounts to observe how they are tolerated.
- It is best to test new foods like blackberries over a few days before adding other new ingredients.
- Ensure that the puree for babies around five months is very smooth and completely free of seeds or lumps.
- If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.
Nutrition Information
Thanks to the blackberries, this porridge provides valuable vitamin C, which supports the absorption of iron from the spelt flakes. The banana also offers easily accessible energy and potassium. This gives your child important building blocks for healthy growth during the early weaning months.
