Summer Blackberry, Peach and Oat Porridge

Contains: Gluten

Ripe blackberries and a sweet peach capture the taste of late summer beautifully. This fine oat porridge offers a creamy texture that is ideal for early feeding attempts. The combination of fruity flavors and valuable nutrients makes this meal a lovely addition to the menu. Especially on warm days, many children enjoy such a fruity and refreshing change. ## Ingredients * 50 g blackberries (organic if possible) * 1 half of a ripe peach, approx. 60 g (peeled and pitted) * 10 g fine quick oats or baby oatmeal * 100 ml water * 1 tsp canola oil ## Preparation 1. Wash the blackberries thoroughly under running water and let them drain well in a sieve. 2. Briefly blanch the peach half in hot water, remove the skin, and cut the flesh into small cubes. 3. Place the prepared fruit and water in a small pot. Let everything simmer gently over medium heat for about five minutes until the fruits are soft. 4. Add the oats, stir well, and let the mixture swell over low heat for another three minutes. 5. Remove the pot from the heat. Blend the porridge very finely with an immersion blender until you reach a smooth, creamy consistency with no lumps at all. 6. Optionally, pass the puree through a fine sieve to remove the small blackberry seeds, making the porridge even smoother. 7. Finally, stir in the canola oil and let the porridge cool to room temperature. Always check the temperature on the back of your hand before feeding your child. ## Variations and Tips * Swap the fruit: Mild pears or apples also work wonderfully instead of peaches. * Storage: The porridge keeps well for up to two days in a sealed container in the fridge. It is also great for freezing in ice cube trays for easy portioning and thawing. * Adjusting texture: For older children who already enjoy small lumps, you can simply mash the fruit with a fork instead of blending. * For the family: Parents can cook a double batch, skip the blending step, and enjoy it with some yogurt or ground nuts for a healthy breakfast. ## Allergy and Safety Information Oats contain gluten. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions. If you have any uncertainties about starting solid foods, please speak with your pediatrician. Keep in mind that milk remains the primary source of nutrition in the early months, with solid foods slowly complementing it. ## Nutritional Information Oats are a wonderful source of plant based iron, which is important for healthy development. The vitamin C from the blackberries and peach helps the body absorb this iron optimally. At the same time, the fruits provide gentle fiber for good digestion.
