Sweet Apple Flammkuchen with Sour Cream and Cinnamon
This sweet apple Flammkuchen is a wonderful autumn treat for children aged three and up. The delicate apple slices and mild sour cream provide quick energy and valuable vitamins after a long walk. The crispy yet thin crust is easy to chew, making shared family meals a delightful experience.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of fresh Flammkuchen dough or thin pizza dough (approx. 260 g)
- 150 g sour cream or crème fraîche (organic if possible)
- 2 mild apples (such as Gala or Elstar)
- 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar
- A splash of lemon juice
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius using conventional heat. Roll out the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Stir the sour cream in a small bowl until smooth, then spread it evenly over the dough. Leave a small border around the edges.
- Wash and core the apples, then cut them into very thin slices. Sprinkle the slices with a little lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
- Arrange the apple slices in a fan shape over the sour cream.
- Mix the cinnamon with the maple syrup and drizzle it lightly over the apples.
- Bake the Flammkuchen in the oven for about 12 to 15 minutes until the edges are crispy and lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and allow it to cool thoroughly. Please test the temperature before serving, as the apples retain a lot of heat.
Variations and Tips
- Fruity alternative: Simply swap the apples for thin pear slices or halved plums during the late summer months.
- Storage: Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to two days when covered. Freezing is not recommended for Flammkuchen, as the crust becomes soggy upon thawing.
- For the whole family: Adults can top their portion of the flatbread with chopped walnuts or slivered almonds for extra crunch.
- Texture adaptation: For children who are still practicing their chewing skills, you can briefly steam the apples before baking to make them even softer.
Allergy and Safety Information
This recipe contains gluten in the dough and dairy in the sour cream. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions. Do not use honey for children under twelve months due to the risk of infant botulism. If you have any concerns about introducing new foods or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.
Nutrition Note
Fresh apples provide important vitamin C and valuable fiber for healthy digestion. The sour cream contributes calcium, which is valuable for building strong bones and teeth during this growth phase. A pinch of cinnamon warms from the inside and adds wonderful flavor without needing much extra sugar.
