Sweet Easter Bunny Yeast Rolls for Toddlers
Introduction
These fluffy Easter bunny rolls are a wonderful baking project for the spring season. Children from the age of three often have a lot of fun kneading and shaping the soft dough with their own hands. Baking together gently supports fine motor skills and creates beautiful memories for the whole family.
Ingredients
For about 4 to 6 small bunnies (roughly 2 to 3 child portions), you will need:
- 250 g all-purpose flour (ideally organic)
- 120 ml lukewarm milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 20 g fresh yeast (or 1 packet active dry yeast)
- 30 g soft butter
- 20 g sugar (or a mild sweetener of your choice)
- 1 pinch ground vanilla
- Raisins for the eyes
- A little extra milk for brushing
Preparation
- Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk and stir briefly.
- Place the flour, soft butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and knead everything into a smooth dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 45 minutes. It typically doubles in size during this time.
- Divide the dough into four to six equal pieces and roll them into small logs.
- Shape the logs into little bunnies, for example by snipping one end to create ears. Press a raisin firmly into the dough for the eye.
- Place the bunnies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them lightly with milk.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Always let them cool completely and check the temperature before serving.
Variations & Tips
- Fruit instead of raisins: If your child does not like raisins, you can use small pieces of apple or dried cranberries for the eyes.
- Storage: Stored in an airtight container, the bunnies stay fresh for about two days at room temperature. They also freeze very well and can be quickly reheated in the oven.
- For the whole family: Spread with a little fruit preserve or fresh butter, these rolls are a delightful addition to the adult breakfast table as well.
Allergy & Safety Notes
This recipe contains gluten (flour) and dairy (milk, butter), which are common allergens. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions. Ensure raisins or other small dried fruits are pressed firmly into the dough to prevent them from becoming loose and posing a choking hazard. If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
The flour in this yeast dough provides valuable carbohydrates, offering quick energy for an active day. The milk contains calcium, which is a helpful building block for growing bodies. Because the recipe uses minimal sugar, it serves as a gentle, age-appropriate alternative to standard sweets.
