Small, tender pieces of turkey and soft spaetzle are perfect for little chewers discovering family meals. The mild cream sauce with finely diced carrots provides an extra portion of vegetables and makes the dish wonderfully smooth. This makes eating together enjoyable and supports your child in developing their own eating skills.

Ingredients

For 2 to 3 portions you will need:

  • 150 g turkey breast fillet (organic preferred)
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 100 ml mild vegetable broth (low sodium)
  • 50 ml heavy cream or oat cream
  • 1 pinch sweet paprika powder
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley (fresh or frozen)
  • 150 g fresh spaetzle (store-bought or homemade)

Preparation

  1. Wash the turkey breast fillet, pat it dry, and cut it into very fine, bite-sized strips.
  2. Peel the carrot and onion, then cut both into very fine dice.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat and gently sauté the meat until it is lightly cooked on all sides.
  4. Add the diced onion and carrot, and sauté everything together for about three minutes.
  5. Pour in the vegetable broth and cream, stir in the paprika powder, and let the sauce simmer gently on low heat for about 10 minutes until the meat is completely tender.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the spaetzle according to the package instructions in gently boiling water until soft.
  7. Fold the parsley into the finished sauce and mix it with the drained spaetzle.
  8. Let the dish cool down well and carefully check the temperature before serving it to your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Vegetable Variation: Instead of carrots, finely diced zucchini or peas also fit perfectly into the mild sauce.
  • For the Whole Family: Set aside the portion for your child, then season the rest for the adults with a little salt, pepper, and perhaps a splash of white wine.
  • Storage: You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. The dish also freezes well for up to three months.
  • Adjusting Texture: For children who are still practicing chewing, you can lightly mash the spaetzle and meat with a fork before serving.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten (spaetzle), egg (spaetzle), and dairy (cream). Always introduce new ingredients individually and in small amounts. Ensure that the turkey meat is completely cooked through. If you use honey to refine other family dishes, remember that it is not suitable for children under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism. If you have any uncertainties about transitioning to family meals, it is best to speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Turkey is a wonderful source of high-quality protein and provides important iron, which supports blood formation. The carrots contribute beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Combined with the filling carbohydrates from the spaetzle, this creates a balanced meal that gives your child plenty of energy for the day.
