Warm Spelt Porridge with Stewed Apples for Pregnancy
A Comforting Start to Your Day
During the early weeks of pregnancy, the stomach is often quite sensitive. A warm spelt porridge provides comfort and steady energy for the day ahead. The combination of fine spelt flakes and stewed apples is easy to digest and feels truly nourishing.
Ingredients for 2 to 3 Portions
- 150 g fine spelt flakes (or rolled oats)
- 400 ml pasteurized milk (or an unsweetened plant-based alternative)
- 200 ml water
- 2 mild apples
- 1 teaspoon butter or mild vegetable oil
- 1 pinch of cinnamon (if desired)
- 1 tablespoon raisins (optional)
Preparation
- Wash, peel, and core the apples.
- Cut the apples into small, bite-sized cubes.
- Heat the butter in a small pot and gently stew the apple pieces until soft.
- Place the spelt flakes, milk, and water into a second pot.
- Bring the mixture to a brief boil while stirring continuously.
- Reduce the heat and let the porridge simmer gently for about five minutes.
- Stir in the raisins and a small pinch of cinnamon if you like.
- Divide the warm porridge into bowls and top with the soft apple pieces.
Good to Know
This porridge is wonderfully easy to adapt to your personal taste. If mornings are rushed, you can soak the flakes in water the night before. Stewed pears or a spoonful of almond butter also make excellent additions. Just remember to chew nuts and seeds thoroughly.
When Things Feel Difficult
During phases of strong nausea or low appetite, small portions are often much easier to manage. Simply leave out the cinnamon if strong smells bother you right now. The porridge also tastes great when cooled down and can be eaten in small spoonfuls throughout the morning. It is always a good idea to discuss persistent symptoms with your midwife or doctor.
An Important Note
Every pregnancy is completely unique. For questions about your nutrition, persistent nausea, or other concerns, it is best to consult your obstetrician, gynecologist, or midwife.
