Whole Wheat Pancakes with Unsweetened Applesauce

PregnancySchwangerschaft 25 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg

Introduction

A warm, sweet meal often feels wonderfully comforting during pregnancy. These whole wheat pancakes provide valuable fiber and keep you gently satisfied. The unsweetened applesauce adds a mild freshness that is usually well-tolerated, even with a sensitive stomach.

Ingredients

  • 150 g whole wheat flour (or spelt flour)
  • 250 ml pasteurized milk (or a plant-based alternative)
  • 2 eggs, medium
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • A little butter or neutral oil for frying
  • 1 small jar of unsweetened applesauce

Instructions

  1. Place the whole wheat flour, milk, eggs, and salt into a bowl.
  2. Whisk everything together until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Let the batter rest for about ten minutes.
  4. Heat a little butter or oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  5. Pour a small ladle of batter into the pan and cook the pancake until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Serve the finished pancakes warm with the unsweetened applesauce.

Good to know

You can easily prepare the batter the night before and keep it in the fridge. Leftover pancakes also make a great cold snack between meals.

When things feel difficult

If you are experiencing heartburn or nausea, eating smaller portions throughout the day often helps. Let the pancakes cool down slightly before eating, as warm foods sometimes have a stronger smell.

Note

If you have questions about your nutrition or experience persistent discomfort during pregnancy, please reach out to your OB/GYN or midwife.
