A Healthy Snack for Active Days

These colorful whole wheat wraps are a wonderful snack for children from three years of age. The combination of protein-rich herb quark, mild turkey breast, and fresh bell pepper provides plenty of energy for active afternoons. They are easy to hold and make eating a fun little adventure.

Parents especially appreciate how quick this recipe is to prepare. The little pinwheels look appetizing and often motivate even picky eaters to give them a try.

Ingredients

For 2 to 3 portions, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 whole wheat wraps (wheat or spelt)
  • 100 g sliced turkey breast (preferably organic, unsmoked)
  • 100 g low-fat quark (or thick plain Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 1 small red bell pepper
  • 1 tsp mild herbs (fresh or frozen, for example chives and parsley)
  • A pinch of mild paprika powder (sweet)

Preparation

  1. Stir the quark and plain yogurt together in a small bowl until a smooth, creamy texture forms.
  2. Gently fold the herbs and paprika powder into the quark mixture.
  3. Wash the bell pepper, remove the seeds, and cut it into very fine, short strips.
  4. Lay the whole wheat wraps flat on a cutting board and spread the herb quark evenly over them.
  5. Distribute the turkey slices and the fine bell pepper strips on top.
  6. Roll the wraps up tightly and cut them into bite-sized pinwheels (about 2 to 3 cm thick).
  7. Before serving, check that the pieces are a comfortable size for your child to manage.

Variations and Practical Tips

Swap the veggies: Instead of bell peppers, fine cucumber sticks or grated carrots work wonderfully in these wraps. This allows you to reinvent the snack again and again.

Storage: Kept in the fridge, uncut wraps wrapped in beeswax paper will stay fresh for about one day. This recipe is not well-suited for freezing due to the fresh dairy and raw peppers.

For the whole family: Adults can upgrade their wraps with some arugula, black pepper, and a pinch of salt.

Adjusting the texture: If your child still finds raw bell peppers tricky to chew, you can lightly steam the vegetable strips beforehand.

Allergy and Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten (wraps) and dairy (quark, yogurt). Introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions.

Make sure vegetable pieces are soft or small enough to prevent choking hazards. If you have any uncertainties regarding your child's diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Whole grain products provide valuable fiber, which keeps children full and supports digestion. The turkey breast and quark contribute important protein for healthy growth. At the same time, the fresh bell pepper supplies your child with a good dose of vitamin C.
