Introduction
This warming winter stew combines mild savoy cabbage with soft potatoes and the natural sweetness of grated apple. The gentle flavors often lead to high acceptance among toddlers, making it a wonderful addition to your shared family meals. At the same time, these seasonal vegetables provide valuable energy for active exploration during the colder months.

- 200 g potatoes (waxy variety, organic if possible)
- 150 g savoy cabbage (hard stems removed)
- 1 small apple (such as Gala or Fuji)
- 1 small onion
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 250 ml low-sodium vegetable broth
- A pinch of mild curry powder or fresh parsley
Preparation
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into small, bite-sized cubes.
- Wash the savoy cabbage, remove the thick stems, and cut the leaves into very fine strips.
- Peel and finely dice the onion, then peel and coarsely grate the apple.
- Heat the canola oil in a pot and sauté the diced onion until translucent.
- Add the cabbage, potatoes, and grated apple, cooking briefly.
- Pour in the low-sodium vegetable broth, cover, and let everything simmer softly over medium heat for about 15 minutes until a creamy consistency forms.
- Allow the dish to cool down and always check the temperature before serving it to your child.
Variations & Tips
- You can easily swap the savoy cabbage for mild pointed cabbage or carrots.
- Parents can easily season their own portions at the table with salt, pepper, and roasted pumpkin seeds.
- Stored in an airtight container, the stew keeps well in the fridge for up to two days.
- This dish freezes beautifully, making it convenient to store in individual portions for busy days.
- For younger eaters, you can lightly mash the stew with a fork at the end to make the texture even softer.
Allergy & Safety Information
- Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily spot any potential reactions.
- Ensure that all vegetable pieces are cooked until very soft to prevent choking hazards.
- While children over 12 months can safely consume honey, never serve it to infants under one year due to the risk of botulism.
- If you have any concerns regarding your child's diet or transitioning to family meals, please consult your pediatrician.
