Zucchini and Tomato Puree with Fine Noodles

This meal is a wonderful stepping stone into family foods, combining mild tomatoes, zucchini, and tiny baby noodles. The soft pasta encourages your child to explore new textures and practice gentle chewing. It brings delicious variety to the spoon while providing wonderful energy for the day.

Ingredients

  • 100 g zucchini (organic if possible)
  • 100 g ripe tomatoes (or plain tomato puree)
  • 30 g fine baby pasta (like pastina or tiny stars)
  • 1 tsp canola oil or specific baby weaning oil
  • Optional: one small fresh basil leaf

Preparation

  1. Wash and peel the zucchini, then cut it into small cubes.
  2. Wash the tomatoes, remove the core, and chop them finely.
  3. Place the vegetables in a small pot with a little water (about 50 ml) and simmer gently for about 10 minutes until soft.
  4. Meanwhile, cook the baby pasta in a separate pot according to the package instructions without adding any salt.
  5. Blend the soft-cooked vegetables into a smooth, creamy sauce using an immersion blender.
  6. Stir the drained pasta and the canola oil into the vegetable sauce.
  7. Allow the meal to cool down to room temperature and always check the temperature before feeding your child.

Variations and Tips

  • Adjusting texture: For younger babies, you can simply blend the cooked pasta together with the vegetables until completely smooth.
  • Vegetable swaps: The zucchini can easily be replaced with mild carrots or butternut squash.
  • Storage: The puree keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the vegetable sauce in ice cube trays for easy portioning. It is usually best to cook the pasta fresh when you need it.
  • Family meal: Parents can season the leftover sauce with salt, pepper, and herbs for a quick and tasty pasta topping for themselves.

Allergy and Safety Information

  • This recipe contains wheat (gluten) from the pasta.
  • Introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily spot any potential reactions.
  • Avoid salt, sugar, and honey entirely during the first year of life.
  • If you have any questions about starting solids or potential food allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, which helps the body absorb iron from other foods. Zucchini provides gentle fiber to support healthy digestion. The canola oil supplies your child with valuable fatty acids, which are important for brain development.
