Snacks2+y 10 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Tree nuts

A Playful Snack for Little Explorers

Colorful whole-wheat bread and fruit skewers are a playful snack that often brings great joy to the table. For children aged three and up, this combination of complex carbohydrates and fresh vitamins provides valuable energy for an active day. The skewered cubes encourage independent eating and gently support fine motor skills.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of whole-wheat bread (preferably smooth, without whole grains)
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese or almond butter (for spreading)
  • 100 g seasonal fruit (e.g., melon, apple, mild grapes)
  • 1 splash of lemon juice (optional, to keep apples from browning)
  • Wooden skewers (blunt-ended if available)
  • Makes about 2 to 3 portions

Preparation

  1. Wash the fruit thoroughly, peel it, and cut it into bite-sized cubes. If using grapes, make sure to quarter them lengthwise.
  2. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese or almond butter on the whole-wheat bread slices. Cut the slices into cubes of about two centimeters.
  3. Alternate threading a bread cube and a piece of fruit onto the wooden skewers. Make sure the ends of the skewers are not too sharp.
  4. Before serving, check that the pieces are easy to chew. These skewers are best enjoyed freshly made at room temperature.

Variations & Tips

  • Instead of fruit, you can use vegetables like cucumber or mild bell peppers.
  • For the whole family, expand the snack by adding cheese cubes or small mozzarella balls.
  • This snack tastes best fresh. In the fridge, the assembled skewers keep for a maximum of one day in an airtight container, and freezing is not recommended.
  • For younger siblings, simply skip the skewers and offer the soft bread and fruit cubes on a colorful plate.

Allergy & Safety Information

  • This recipe contains gluten (bread) and dairy (cream cheese) or tree nuts (almond butter).
  • Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts.
  • Skewers carry a slight risk of injury, so children must always be supervised while eating.
  • If you have any concerns about your child's diet, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutrition Information

Whole-wheat bread provides valuable fiber, which keeps children full and supports digestion. The fresh fruit adds plenty of vitamin C, which wonderfully aids the absorption of iron from the grains. This is an ideal combination to healthily meet the energy needs of active children.
