Winter Baked Apple Tiramisu with Crispy Speculoos

Seasonal2+y 80 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Sugar

Introduction

This festive layered dessert brings the magic of the holiday season right to your family table and is wonderfully suited for children from three years of age. The combination of soft apples and creamy filling offers a great taste experience, while the gentle spices awaken the senses. It is a recipe that older siblings or teenagers can easily prepare themselves to surprise the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 2 organic apples (such as Gala or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 0.5 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
  • 100 g mascarpone
  • 100 g plain quark or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 8 to 10 speculoos cookies (Biscoff style)
  • 50 ml unfiltered apple juice

Preparation

  1. Wash, peel, and cut the apples into small, bite-sized cubes.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat and sauté the apple cubes with the cinnamon for about 5 to 7 minutes until soft.
  3. Let the baked apple mixture cool down completely on a plate.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the mascarpone, quark, and maple syrup together until a smooth, creamy texture is formed.
  5. Pour the apple juice into a shallow dish and briefly dip the speculoos cookies on both sides.
  6. In small glasses, alternate layers of the soaked cookies, the cream, and the cooled apple pieces.
  7. Let the dessert chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour and check the temperature of the apples before serving.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruity variation: Instead of apples, soft pears work wonderfully for this seasonal dessert.
  • Storage: The tiramisu can be kept covered in the refrigerator for up to two days. Freezing is not recommended, as the cream may become watery upon thawing.
  • Texture adjustment: For children who prefer softer textures, you can soak the cookies in the apple juice a little longer.
  • Family tip: Adults can enhance their portion with a few toasted, chopped almonds as a topping.

Allergy & Safety

This recipe contains dairy (mascarpone, quark, butter) and gluten (speculoos cookies). Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily spot any potential sensitivities. Check store-bought cookies for hidden nuts, and generally only use finely ground nuts to prevent choking hazards. If you have any concerns about your child's diet, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Info

This dessert provides valuable dietary fiber from the apples, which supports healthy digestion. The quark contributes important calcium, which is particularly valuable for bone growth at this age. The cinnamon not only provides that typical winter flavor but also offers a comforting warmth.
