Introduction
This quick spring dish is often a big hit with children from three years of age. The crispy crust and colorful vegetables invite exploration and support the joy of eating together. At the same time, green asparagus provides valuable vitamins for an active day.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of puff pastry (refrigerated, approx. 275 g)
- 250 g green asparagus
- 100 g mild cooked ham
- 100 g cream cheese (full fat)
- 50 g grated cheese (such as mild Gouda or cheddar)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- A pinch of mild herbs (like parsley or chives)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (conventional heat).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and fold the edges slightly inward.
- Spread the cream cheese evenly over the dough.
- Wash the green asparagus, cut off the woody ends, and divide the spears into bite-sized pieces.
- Cut the cooked ham into small cubes.
- Distribute the asparagus and ham over the cream cheese, drizzle with a little olive oil, and sprinkle with grated cheese.
- Bake the tart in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool well before serving and test the temperature so your child does not burn their mouth.
Variations & Tips
- Swap the vegetables: Zucchini slices or small broccoli florets work wonderfully instead of asparagus.
- Vegetarian option: Simply leave out the ham or replace it with mild cherry tomatoes.
- Storage: Leftovers keep for up to two days in the fridge when covered and also taste great cold.
- For the whole family: Adults can refine their portion with a little black pepper or fresh arugula after baking.
Allergy & Safety Notes
- This recipe contains gluten (puff pastry) and dairy products (cream cheese, grated cheese).
- Always introduce new ingredients individually and in small amounts to observe any potential reactions.
- Make sure to cut the ham and asparagus into very small pieces for younger children.
- If you have uncertainties about nutrition or possible allergies, please consult your pediatrician.
