Ingredients
For 2 to 3 portions you will need:
- 400 g potatoes
- 250 g mixed minced meat (organic if possible)
- 1 small onion
- 1 stale bread roll (or 3 tbsp breadcrumbs)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
- 1 pinch of salt and mild pepper
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp wheat flour
- 250 ml mild vegetable broth
- 50 ml heavy cream
- 1 tsp capers (finely chopped)
- 1 splash of lemon juice
Preparation
- Peel the potatoes, cut them into bite sized pieces, and boil them in lightly salted water for about 20 minutes until tender.
- Soak the bread roll in a little water and squeeze out the excess moisture. Mix it well with the minced meat, egg, finely diced onion, and parsley, then form small meatballs.
- Bring about 500 ml of water or broth to a boil in a wide pot. Reduce the heat and let the meatballs simmer gently for 10 to 12 minutes until they are fully cooked and float to the top.
- To make the sauce, melt the butter in a small pot and quickly whisk in the flour. Pour in 250 ml of broth and the cream, then simmer while stirring for 5 minutes until a smooth, creamy texture forms.
- Stir the finely chopped capers and lemon juice into the sauce, then add the meatballs back in to warm them up.
- Let the meal cool down sufficiently and always test the temperature before your child takes the first bite.

- Vegetarian option: Easily swap the minced meat for a plant based alternative made from pea protein or lentils.
- Storage: The meatballs and sauce will stay fresh in the fridge for up to two days.
- Freezing: This dish freezes beautifully and can be kept in the freezer for about three months.
