Ingredients
- 1 roll of fresh puff pastry from the refrigerated section (approx. 275 g)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (or plant-based alternative)
- 1 tbsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tbsp coconut sugar or fine raw cane sugar
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat).
- Unroll the puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use a pastry brush to spread the melted butter evenly over the dough.
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and sprinkle it over the buttered surface.
- Cut the dough into strips about two centimeters wide.
- Your child can now hold each strip by both ends and carefully twist it.
- Place the twisted sticks onto the baking sheet with a little space between them.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
- Let the cinnamon twists cool down completely and always check the temperature before eating.
Variations & Tips
- Fruity twist: Instead of butter, spread a thin layer of unsweetened applesauce over the dough.
- Savory version: Skip the cinnamon and sugar, using grated cheese and mild herbs instead.
- Storage: These twists taste best fresh but will keep in an airtight container for one to two days.
- Family tip: Adults can dip these crispy sticks into their afternoon coffee or a creamy dip.
